Global rugby superstar updates

December 28, 2005

Former All Black Jonah Lomu scored his first try for the Cardiff Blues in their 41-23 win over Dragons on Tuesday.

England's World Cup hero Jonny Wilkinson could begin his latest comeback from injury when Newcastle host Worcester in the Guinness Premiership on New Year's Day.

And the Fiji Rugby Union will not allow Rupeni Caucaunibuca to play for Fiji at the Commonwealth games in Melbourne in March. The winger's 12-month ban stands. Only a couple years ago the Fijian speedster was the most explosive and promising superstar in world rugby since Lomu's kidney ailment. Caucau failed to turn up for matches against New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga in mid-year, leaving his team in the lurch at the last minute. Currently he is playing for Agen in France and scored a hat-trick of tries in last week's Top 14 match with Toulon.
